KHS ICT Audit

Published by under Computing

This is an ongoing process, but as I’m discovering, there are many people making innovative use of ICT in the school, and it is difficult to pick just one or two out to present to staff on the Inset day on February 12th.

To mention just a few:

  • Online Questionnaire used to evaluate Maths courses
  • Email used in English and RME for pupils to submit essays and reports
  • Videos of pupil presentations used for peer assessment in History
  • Maths staff using an on-line Moodle forum to share ideas

And many more..

On the day Mr Gordon Watson will be describing his use of a Chemistry VLE

and Ms Hewins will be demonstrating the Geography Homework blog she has set up

NGFL Refresh

Published by under Computing

Well its happening this Summer Holiday. I’ve already spent two weeks getting to grips with the new software, tying up cables and checking that things are working as they should. All the new machines are in, including the 86 which we had to purchase ourselves. The Intranet has been transferred, and Easylink set up, though not accessible from outside yet. Some software packages have been installed and most of the peripherals are working.

Still to do: email, pupil intranet subwebs, SMTP on our web server, FTP service (this one seems to be a big problem) allocate software to stations.

I reckon on another full week’s work to get things sorted, this doesn’t include the work that the long suffering network administrators have been putting in all Summer.

SBC ICT Event day

Published by under Computing

The event seemed well received by those who attended. My laptop even survived a glass of water being emptied into the keyboard!

Here are the links to my presentation for those who want to follow it up:

Back to work tomorrow

Published by under Computing

Back to work tomorrow – I normally return to mountains of spam in my school email, this time I’ve been able to delete it from home using the remote login system. The spam has consisted of 70% pump and dump stock promotions, 20% pharmaceutical sales and 10% ever popular 419 scams. What a waste of bandwidth!
